RAMBAN: To mark Vasudha Vandhan under ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ a nationwide campaign, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today launched a plantation drive organised by the Forest Division, Ramban and Social Forestry Division Ramban.
The Deputy Commissioner along with senior officers of the District Administration planted saplings of Silver Oak and Cupressus in the premises of the District Administrative Complex Ramban besides sensitizing the participants about the programme.
DDC member Ramban Rakesh Singh, ADDC Rajinder Sharma, ADC Harbans Lal, CPO Dr. Kasturi Lal, DFO Dr. Rajan Singh, DFO SF Mahesh Thakur and various other senior officers and officials participated in the plantation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that with an aim of improving biodiversity of the region and ensuring sustainable development of the ecologically fragile region. It will also help in soil and water conservation, thereby, minimizing incidents of landslides and other environmental related problems, he added.
He appealed to the general public to plant at least five plants during the monsoon season to combat the problem of global warming and to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
Earlier, DFOs informed that plantation drives were carried out by Ramban Forest Division along Social Forestry Deptt, FPF under campaign Vasudha Vandhan ‘Meri Matti Mera Desh’ at different panchayats of the district in collaboration with District Administration, Rural Development Department, Urban and Housing Department and PRIs. The plants were also distributed among the locals and PRIs.
