DC Rajouri chairs NCORD meeting, reviews measures to combat drug menace

RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a crucial meeting of the District NCORD Committee at the VC Room, DC Office, to assess the ongoing efforts against drug abuse and trafficking in the district.

During the meeting, the DC reviewed key aspects, including bails and acquittals in NDPS cases, seizures of drugs in commercial quantities, and the adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in handling such cases. He emphasized the need for a multi-pronged approach focusing on enforcement, treatment, and awareness to effectively tackle the drug menace.

In a major enforcement action, the license of a pharmacy in Thanamandi was canceled, while another unlicensed shop was identified. The DC has initiated an inquiry into the purchase and sale of medicines at the unlicensed outlet.

Further strengthening surveillance, CCTV cameras have now been installed in all 797 pharmacy shops across the district, while 735 shops have started computerized billing, enhancing transparency and monitoring of drug sales.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for an Intensive IEC campaign under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, including the training of resource persons who will spearhead awareness drives. The DC directed ADCs and SDMs to ensure proper training and awareness programs in their respective jurisdictions to sensitize the public on the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to zero tolerance against drug abuse and called for sustained efforts from all stakeholders to create a drug-free Rajouri.
