Volunteers to be Nikshay Mitra for TB Patients
PULWAMA: In a concerted effort towards elimination of tuberculosis (TB) from the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom today chaired a comprehensive TB Forum meeting under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP).
The meeting focused on evaluating the current TB elimination strategies and planning future actions to achieve the ambitious target of a TB-free Pulwama.
Dr. Basharat emphasized the critical importance of coordinated efforts to eradicate TB well before the given timelines, in alignment with national goals. He highlighted the need for comprehensive strategies involving early diagnosis, effective treatment protocols, and robust awareness campaigns to educate the community about TB prevention and management.
Plans for enhancing community outreach through targeted awareness programs aimed at dispelling myths about TB, promoting early diagnosis, and encouraging treatment adherence. Improving data collection and reporting mechanisms to monitor progress and identify areas needing additional focus.
The testing rate has surpassed targets, achieving more than 100% coverage against targets for defined populations.
Currently, 63 patients are under treatment with continuous monitoring and treatment evaluation of treatment regimes. There has been a consistent decrease in incidence.
During the meeting, Dr. Basharat emphasized robust contact tracing of confirmed cases and complete evaluation to diagnose and treat co-morbidities to reduce mortality. Continuous monitoring and follow-up to ensure improved treatment outcomes and reduced patient care gaps.
While evaluating the Nikshay Mitra component, DC volunteered to be Nikshay Mitra for TB patients to provide nutritional support and urged Officers and Members of Corporate/ industry and other organisations to be part of Nikshay Mitra Scheme.
As on date majority of the active patients are tagged to Nikshay Mitras for Supplementary Nutritional Support.
The forum concluded with a collective hope and determination to achieve significant milestones in the fight against TB. The action plan for the next six months will focus on intensifying efforts to detect, treat, and prevent TB, ensuring comprehensive care and support for all affected individuals.
Dr. Basharat called for sustained community involvement and urged citizens to participate actively in the fight against tuberculosis.
