KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din and Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom today jointly chaired a daylong Municipal Diwas and Grievance Redressal Camp at Town Hall, Kupwara.
Chairman, Municipal Committee Kupwara, Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Councillors, besides, District/sectoral Officers; Executive Officers of MC Kupwara, Handwara and Langate participated in the Municipal Diwas.
In his address, the DC said that the objective of holding Municipal Diwas is to listen and address the developmental issues of the people living in towns. He appealed to all stakeholders including traders, transporters, shop owners and general public to extend their support to the District Administration in eradication of illegal encroachments in Kupwara town to ensure hassle free movement of people especially health emergencies.
He also appealed to the unemployed youth of the district to come forward and enrol themselves under the ambitious Mission Youth programme of the Government for getting self-employment benefits under various schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director ULB said that the Government is committed to proper development and management of urban areas adding that the sanitation facilities are continuously being augmented with implementation of scientific disposal of solid waste management plan to ensure clean and green towns.
She said that 13 special vehicles (hoopers) will be provided to Kupwara district by 15th March this year to ensure door to door collection of solid waste with proper segregation in all the three towns.
She directed the EOs of the Municipalities to check and speed up the drive against illegal constructions in their respective areas. She further directed them to hold special drives for removal of plastic waste and provide proper awareness to the residents about maintaining good sanitation in the towns.
Earlier, Chairman MC Kupwara, Councillors also spoke and raised various issues with regard to their local requirements.
The dignitaries gave them patient hearing and directed the concerned officers for proper disposal of their genuine demands.
District Officers on the occasion spoke and provided awareness of schemes of their concerned departments, besides, replied to the queries raised on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Block Diwas was held at Nawagabra in border sub division Karnah where Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kupwara, Jowhar Ali presided over the programme.
