DC Kulgam chairs District Level NCORD Committee meeting

KULGAM: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss various measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use besides cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.

The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.

It was decided in the meeting that exchange of intelligence/ information about trends of drug trafficking should be shared between the members of the committee for greater success of the agenda of the committee.

The DC asked all the stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign in all blocks of the district especially in drug prone areas involving PRIs, school children and locals in concerned areas. 

He also asked for implementing alternative development programmes in areas affected by illicit cultivation of narcotic crops in the district.

The DC urged the Education department for raising awareness regarding anti drug abuse and its ill effects on society in all educational institutions.

He stressed step up vigil against drug proliferation, consumption and intensifying awareness against such addictive substances.

During the meeting it was also informed that a w.e.f 01 January, 2022 to 31 July, 2022, 35 cases were registered under NDPS whereas 12 challans were produced before court of law and 02 persons were detained under PSA.

Further it was given out that intense poppy straw destruction was carried out on more than 110 kanals this season.

The meeting was attended by SSP Kulgam Dr.G.V.Sandeep; ADC, CMO, DSWO, CEO, Tehsildars, DFO, Drug inspector/Officer and other officers from police and civil administration.
