DC Kishtwar reviews development activities across designated Model Panchayats

KISHTWAR: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan on Saturday convened a comprehensive review meeting to assess the development activities in the designated Model Panchayats in the district.

 The initiative launched by the DC aims to saturate 82 key developmental indicators in 13 identified Model Panchayats, serving as a framework to replicate the model across all 136 Panchayats in the district.

During the meeting, panchayat-wise reviews were conducted, and specific directions were issued to ensure effective implementation. Special focus was laid on the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. The DC emphasized the active involvement of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), youth, and other stakeholders in eradication of substance abuse by adopting a multi-pronged approach.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was tagged as another priority under the initiative to make Panchayats polythene-free zones.  

The Other highlight of the meeting was the review of the implementation of the Employment Generation Programme. Special Emphasis was laid on registering youth and women under schemes like PMEGP and Mission Youth, with active involvement of DIC and the Assistant Director of Employment. Status of youth club formation was reviewed, with innovative approaches encouraged for water conservation and the protection of water.

Under the Health Sector Indicators, stress was laid on achieving 100% institutional deliveries, tracking pre- and post-natal care of women, combating hypertension and TB, and ensuring nutritional and vaccination coverage for infants in rural areas.

Two-month timeline was set to achieve saturation of all key indicators, with a focus on solarizing Panchayats and closing existing gaps in developmental targets. Progress of forming self-help groups, implementation of social security schemes, Ladli Beti and scholarship programs was assessed to ensure compliance with the developmental indicators.

The Officer also assessed the status of the constitution and functioning of Village Monitoring Committees (VMCs) with directions issued to strengthen their roles in monitoring and implementing initiatives effectively.

The meeting was attended by ACD Kishtwar Idrees Lone, CPO Kishtwar Shahnawaz Bali, ACD Kishtwar Phulail Singh, besides other district and sectoral officers.
