JAMMU: The weekly Block Diwas meeting in the district was held today at Block headquarters Maira Mandrian. The event was chaired by District Development Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya.
Also present were DDC Member, Suresh Sharma and BDC Chairperson, Sushma Devi besides Sarpanchs and other PRI representatives.
The Block Diwas meeting was an opportunity for the public and their representatives to project local issues and demands. The PRIs highlighted the need for public transport facilities. They also urged the authorities to operationalise the local health sub centre to meet the health needs of the people.
They also expressed their concerns regarding supply of ration. Furthermore, they demanded better sports facilities, resolution of the stalled Jal Jeevan Mission works and construction of several roads that are vital for connectivity, besides other issues.
The DDC listened to the grievances and demands of the people and assured prompt resolution. He also directed the concerned officers to stick to the commitments which are made with the public towards fulfilling their requirements and grievances.
He encouraged the public to foster a sense of community and cooperate with the administration in execution of development works. He also encouraged all to promote afforestation and spread awareness about the benefits of plants and trees.
The DDC shed light on the significance of Block Diwas meetings with the public and said that the weekly affair ensures touch with the public. He added that the Block Diwas is an opportunity for the people to voice their concerns and get them addressed on the spot. He also appreciated the participation and enthusiasm of the people in the Block Diwas meetings.
The district officers including SDM Akhnoor, BDO Maira Mandrian, Tehsildar and others were also present.
