JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, conducted an on site inspection of the desilting and cleaning operations along the canal stretching from Jammu University to the Railway Station and Trikuta Nagar areas. Accompanying him was Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, along with a team of senior officials.

During the inspection, the DC emphasised the critical importance of the prompt removal and proper disposal of the extracted silt to prevent any potential environmental hazards and mishaps. He issued instructions to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jammu South and the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department to implement stringent measures against any encroachments along the canal’s banks.

This initiative aligns with the district administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure the timely maintenance and repair of canal infrastructure.

In a recent meeting held last month, the DC had underscored the necessity of expediting repair and desilting activities to guarantee efficient water flow to the tail ends of irrigation channels. He also mandated vigilant ground monitoring by Irrigation & Flood Control Department staff to swiftly address any encroachment issues.
