DC Ganderbal chairs RTA, DRTC meeting

GANDERBAL: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today chaired the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting at VC Room of DC office, here.

During the meeting, a brief discussion was held on proper regulation of public transport on various routes throughout the district. Plan for finalization of routes for the operationalization of e-Rickshaws on various routes especially where availability of public transport is poor in the district also came under discussion.

After threadbare discussion, the DC directed the ARTO to undertake a comprehensive survey to check the feasibility, cost benefit analysis and identify poor public transport routes in different parts of the town so that an efficient and effective route plan is finalized to implement a better traffic management system to overcome the traffic issues in the township.

In the meeting, it was also decided that subsidies under the MUMKIN Scheme shall be provided to the youth for purchase of small transport vehicles which shall solve the problem of hungry routes of the district.

After threadbare discussion approval was accorded for operation of e-Rickshaws on four routes in the town.

The DC directed the concerned Officers to undertake a comprehensive survey to check the feasibility, cost benefit analysis and identify hungry routes in different parts of the district so that public transport is managed accordingly to facilitate the general public.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the present traffic scenario in the district besides measures being taken to overcome traffic jams to ensure smooth regulation of traffic movement in the town and provide better transport services to the people. 

Later, the DC also chaired the District Road Safety Committee meeting during which an action plan for road safety measures was discussed.

The meeting discussed threadbare agenda points including raising awareness about Road Safety, Removal of Encroachments/hoardings, Traffic Management, identification of black spots, fixing of road signages and erecting of crash barriers, strict implementation of provisions of Motor Vehicle Act-2019, implementation of GPS in commercial vehicles and other allied issues.

Addressing the meeting, the DC stressed for identifying black spots, initiating remedial measures, installation of signage and painting of roads at appropriate spots and generation of awareness for making roads safer in the district.

ADDC Ganderbal, SDM Kangan, ARTO Ganderbal, Ex. Engineer R&B, EO Municipality, DySP Headquarter, DySP Traffic and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
