GANDERBAL: In a significant move to bolster irrigation management in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today convened a meeting with the Irrigation Department at V.C Room of DC Office, here.
The meeting was aimed to review and expedite the ongoing and approved irrigation works and devise effective strategies for optimal irrigation facilities across Ganderbal.
During the meeting, the DC meticulously assessed the progress of works sanctioned under the convergence with MGNREGA and other departmental initiatives.
Highlighting a significant concern, the DC directed the engineering wing of I&FC to identify households discharging waste into the canals and to develop a robust mechanism for treating such discharges. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the health of the irrigation canals that are vital for agriculture in Ganderbal.
Furthermore, Shyambir stressed the importance of completing all ongoing irrigation-related works within the stipulated timelines to prevent any disruption in irrigation services to the farmers.
He also emphasized the need for timely repair of any breaches in the canals to ensure that agricultural activities are not adversely affected.
The district administration is committed to ensuring the sustainability of irrigation resources and enhancing the agricultural productivity of the district.
The ongoing efforts reflect the administration’s dedication to improving the infrastructure and support systems critical for the farming community in Ganderbal.
