DC conducts comprehensive tour of low-lying areas in Bandipora & Hajin

BANDIPORA: Amidst incessant rains, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Shakeel ul Rehman today undertook a comprehensive visit of low-lying areas of the Bandipora and Hajin Tehsils of district to assess situation and oversee the necessary measures.

The DC visited Aloosa Ghat, Lankreshipora, Tangwani, Gund Dachina, Hajin, and other adjoining areas to evaluate the current situation and assess any potential risks or challenges faced by residents, and take stock of situation arisen due to incessant rains in low lying areas besides assess on-ground situation of various vital bridges including Hajin Bridge over River Jehlum.

During the visit, DC interacted with residents, listened to their concerns, and assured them that the administration is actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.

Assessing the situation at Panchayat Ghar Aloosa Ghat, the DC directed for dewatering of panchayat premises, and also asked the BDO to strengthen the embankments of nearby streams to prevent water logging in panchayat ghar premises.

At Lankreshipora, the DC asked Tehsildar to assess the situation and ensure that adequate measures are in place to prevent any flood like situation.

Taking on spot inspection of Tangwani Bridge Garoora, as reports regarding the damage of Tangwani Bridge were received, the DC directed the concerned to take immediate necessary steps in order to mitigate risks and ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

He also visited the Hajin area and took stock of the ground situation of various areas besides reviewing the current situation of Jhelum Embankments and Bridges over River Jehlum.

The DC directed the concerned officers to proactively monitor the situation and take necessary steps as required with a focus on low-lying vulnerable areas on Jehlum and Wular Banks.

He emphasized the importance of preparedness and urged General Public to remain vigilant, particularly people living in low-lying areas besides urging them not to panic during such challenging times.

He said that District Administration Bandipora is closely monitoring the situation and has deployed necessary resources to address any emergencies that may arise.

Shakeel ul Rehman said, “Our priority is to ensure the safety and security of every individual, and we urge everyone to stay calm, stay informed, and not to panic besides stressed on following safety guidelines.”

The DC was accompanied by CPO, AD FCS&CA, Executive Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer I&FC Sumbal, Ex. Engineer I&FC Bandipora, Tehsildar Bandipora and other concerned.
