DC Baramulla chairs DLCDC meeting, approves key initiatives for International Year of Cooperation

BARAMULLA: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired the District-Level Cooperative Development Committee meeting, where several key initiatives were approved as part of the International Year of Cooperation.

The meeting focused on fostering sustainable development, enhancing youth participation, and promoting economic growth through cooperative models in the district.

Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Baramulla, Adnan Nazir, gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation, outlining the strategies for strengthening the cooperative sector. The approved initiatives include the establishment of Mini Superbazar at Tarzoo and Pattan, formation of Model Society at Cooperative Marketing Society Sopore which would include an Artisan Village, Cold Storage Facilities, Food Processing Units, Gym Centers and Community library & Marriage Hall amongst other projects.

These projects are designed to boost local industries, create job opportunities, and enhance the livelihood.

Addressing the meeting, DC Minga Sherpa emphasized the role of cooperatives in economic empowerment and community development. He highlighted that the initiatives, aligned with the International Year of Cooperation, will provide significant support to local communities and promote the growth of cooperative enterprises. 

He also stressed the importance of involving youth in the cooperative movement to inspire innovative business models and sustainable entrepreneurship.

DC Minga said that the cooperative movement is key to building inclusive and resilient economies. Through these initiatives, he said, “we aim to create long-term opportunities for youth and support local businesses, contributing to the growth of Baramulla in line with the goals of the International Year of Cooperation”.

The meeting also discussed the need for financial linkages, capacity-building programs, and effective implementation to ensure the success of these initiatives. The district administration is committed to providing policy support and collaborating with all stakeholders to empower cooperatives as drivers of economic progress.
