Spread the message ‘Say No to Drugs’: Dr Owais
BANDIPORA: Taking forward the unique initiative of a public outreach programme launched by the J&K Government, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Wednesday held Block Diwas at Sumbal sub-division of the district.
People hailing from different areas of Sumbal sub-division attended the programme and put forth their issues relating to problems faced by them particularly drinking water supply, irrigation, restoration of power supply in the areas affected by recent rainfall, besides other issues.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC assured all deputations and individuals that their grievances and demands will be addressed at the earliest. He further added that the District Administration is ensuring that the public outreach programme shall prove fruitful and progressive initiatives for the future.
He also asked the department of horticulture to provide agricultural tools, including irrigation motors to the people of these areas.
Dr Owais directed PDD, MID, IFC to gear up men and machinery and utilize the services of the concerned manpower to ensure early release of water in canals and ensure that the farmers do not suffer due to shortage of irrigation water.
The DC directed the concerned to conduct programs on drug de addiction in schools and colleges, to help minimize the abuse of drugs and encourage addicts/dependent to access treatment. He stressed on spreading the message of ‘Say No to Drugs’ across all the sections of the society, especially among youth who are nation builders.
DC entrusted upon PRIs to cooperate for the collection of outstanding power bills and motivate the public to get benefited by the Amnesty Scheme and install the Roof top solar system on 60%subsidy to reduce electricity bills.
Officers of the R&B Department were on the spot directed to expedite the progress of works.
Earlier, SDM Sumbal, on the occasion, detailed the steps taken to ensure basic amenities to the public.
Nodal Officer Coordination/ Assistant Commissioner Development Mohammad Ashraf Hakak; Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad; Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sumbal, Aamir Chaudhary; Police and other civil officers besides BDC Chairpersons and DDC members were present on the occasion.
Later, the District Youth Services and Sports Department held a Tug of War between PRIs and Officials.
