DC Anantnag chairs DLSC Fisheries

ANANTNAG: The District Level Screening Committee (DLSC) met here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom to discuss implementation of District Fisheries plan (DFP) 2022-23 and selection of beneficiaries for construction of permanent raceways.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that inventive based schemes aimed at sustainable livelihood generation are the focus area as such schemes are instrumental for providing prosperous opportunities to the youth.

Dr Basharat said that the district has good potential in trout rearing and emphasized that forward linkages and marketing support is also available under ODOP where trout is the notified product for the district. He directed the department to ensure IEC activities to spread awareness about the schemes. 

A total of 06 beneficiaries were selected through a draw of lots for setting up of permanent trout raceways under UT/ District CAPEX.

Deputy Director Fisheries briefing the participants about the scheme said that the main aim is improving the socio-economic status of under-privileged fishermen and to create employment opportunities for the youth.

He said the scheme covers several aspects including fish production, productivity, harvesting, infrastructure and strengthening of the value chain, establishing a robust Fisheries Management framework as well as welfare of the fishing community.

The DC issued directions for timely completion of the raceways and directed the department to focus on fish processing and cold storage infrastructure to allow easy access to outside markets.

The meeting was attended by SE Hydraulic, ACR, District Head, KVK Anantnag, Chief Agriculture Officer, DLBM and progressive fish farmers.
