ANANTNAG: In order to curb the drug menace in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today chaired the 6th District Level NCORD meeting.
During the meeting, the attendees were apprised about the action taken report of previous meetings held.
The chair was informed that various training/ awareness programmes were held across the district to sensitise the people and victims about the ill effects of drug menace.
The Medical Department and Education department collaboratively imparted training to 1034 staff members to sensitise the officers and officials of other departments besides the students and parents.
NRLM officials said that they have organised 285 camps across the district. They were directed to continue organising awareness camps in various parts of the district in collaboration with other departments including RDD, Social welfare, etc.
The Drug control officers said that seven licenses were suspended of medical shops involved in selling drugs without prescription and strict vigilance is being maintained.
SSP on the occasion said that prompt action and proper reporting will help in curbing this menace and early destruction of the poppy and bung cultivation will also be a good step to control the production.
Under mission youth, youth clubs have been framed in 335 panchayats. The DC said that these youth clubs will be sensitized and encouraged to bring about awareness in their panchayats and counsel their peers. He said youth clubs can become the beacon for other youth and prevent the vulnerable from falling prey to others.
DC laid stress on the involvement of PRIs, SHGs, public icons etc to counsel the young minds and appealed to the parents to have vigil over their kids.
The meeting was attended by the members of the committee which include SSP, ADC, PO ICDS, CMO, Principal GDC, Superintendent GMC, CEO, DSWO, CDPO HQ, ETO, officers of NRLM, officers of Drug control organisation, besides other stakeholders.
