Composite Regional Centre organizes mega Rehabilitation/ Distribution Camp

SRINAGAR:  The Composite Regional Centre, for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Bemina, Srinagar today organized a one-day mega Rehabilitation cum Distribution camp for Persons with Disabilities as part of commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The mega Rehabilitation camp is one of the Camps that the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has been organizing in 72 locations across the country aiming at to build a vision to have an inclusive society in which equal opportunities are provided for the growth and development of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjans), so that they can lead a productive safe and dignified lives in the Society.

More than 300 beneficiaries (PwDs) and their siblings attended the camp during which more than 260 number of aids and appliances were distributed by the institution among the registered beneficiaries (PwDs) under ADIP Scheme of the Ministry, which include 200 Hearing-aids, 17 Prosthesis and Orthoses, 15 MSIED Kits, 14 Smart-canes, 02 Braille kits, 51 Wheel-chairs, 06 Tri-cycles and 20 Crutches etc.

Among others, the programme was attended by Vice Chancellor Cluster University, Prof Qayyum Hussain; Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Hanief Balkhi; Director CRC Srinagar, Dr Mir Zafar Iqbal; Asst. Secretary Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Pawan Kumar;  Deputy Director  Health Services Kashmir, Dy. Director, Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC), Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar,  Officers  from Social Welfare Department Kashmir, HOD’s, Doctors, Representatives from prominent NGOs of Kashmir and other Social Activists, Rehabilitation professionals,  faculty members. 

 Speaking on the occasion, the Prof Qayyum highlighted that Cluster University will extend every help to CRC in terms of floating of academic courses and also focused that there is need of developing mechanism for Specially Abled persons by way of providing them some monthly incentives as social Security as is prevailing in western countries, till they get some job and also urged that there is need for floating of skill development short term courses for them so that they can get livelihood at their own.

 Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, and Asst. Secretary MSJ&E, Govt. of India highlighted the need of generating awareness among the Specially Abled Persons with regard to the schemes being implemented by the Govt. of India for the welfare of such segment of the society and urged Specially Abled Persons to take benefit of the services and schemes being implemented by CRC Srinagar.

They also applauded the work of the Director CRC and staff for the activities being carried out at this institution in the interest of Specially Abled Persons.

Speaking during the event the, Director CRC express his pleasure and welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, State Dignitaries and other officers and participants for visiting and attending the said Mega Rehabilitation Camp which he said will prove to boost the morale of  Specially Abled Persons (Divyangjans) of our society.

The Director also highlighted the activities, services, awareness programmes being implemented and developments that took place in this institution from the last few years.
