NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the BJP of trying to manipulate electoral rolls data ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal claimed the BJP was trying to win elections through “unfair means” after failing to present strong candidates or issues.

“Operation Lotus has now reached my New Delhi Assembly constituency. This operation has been going on since December 15. In these 15 days, they (BJP) have filed applications for the deletion of 5,000 votes and the addition of 7,500 votes,” he alleged.

He claimed that this could alter 12 per cent of the votes. “Such manipulation undermines democracy. We appeal to the EC to continue its strict monitoring,” he said. He has also written a letter to the DEO. “We have requested that these applications be verified in our presence. Without this, no deletions should be approved,” an AAP statement said.
