RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, today finalized the arrangements for the successful conduct of the World Thalassemia Day event and the Red Cross Day in the district.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects a large number of people in India. World Thalassemia Day is observed every year to raise awareness about the disease, its prevention, and management.

The Red Cross Day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Henry Dunant.

As part of the twin commemorations, a series of events and activities will be organized across Rajouri district. The DC directed all concerned officials and departments to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to make the events a success.

The meeting was informed that there are 45 patients of thalassemia in the district.

To provide best health care facilities to the patients suffering from Thalassemia, the DC   directed the Project Officer DIC to work out the modalities to constitute thalassemia society in the district. Similarly, he also asked for the constitution of a haemophilia society in the district to provide necessary support to the people suffering from blood disorder.

He emphasized the importance of creating awareness about thalassemia and providing support to those affected by the disease. He also urged the people of Rajouri to participate in large numbers and support the cause.

In the meeting, it was also decided that the Department of Blood Transfusion, in collaboration with the district administration, would organize a mega blood donation camp on World Thalassemia Day. The initiative will provide an opportunity to the people to contribute towards the noble cause of saving lives through blood donation.
