Arrangements for Diwali Festival reviewed in Doda District

DODA: The arrangements for Diwali- the festival of lights were reviewed here today at a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sudershan Kumar and attended by functionaries of line departments, police, besides representatives of Traders unions and local Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The magistrates, police officers, and the executive officers of all Municipal Committees (MCs) were asked to identify suitable locations   for the sale of firecrackers, with all necessary permissions and safety measures. The enforcement officers were directed to monitor the sale of fireworks at designated points, ensuring safety protocols are strictly adhered to.

Security arrangements were also discussed, emphasizing the need for maintaining peace and harmony during the festivities. Traffic management plans for towns across the district were reviewed. The Fire and Emergency Services department was asked to keep fire tenders on standby and issue safety advisories related to firecrackers.

The ADC also connected virtually with Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Tehsildars, instructing them to ensure security, fire services, and designate locations for firecracker sales in their respective areas.

Other directives included ensuring uninterrupted power supply by the Power Development Department (PDD), arranging drinking water and barricades by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, and coordinating ambulance and first-aid services with the Health Department. Additionally, ADC Kumar called for the constitution of flying squads to keep a check on the overcharging and ensure availability of  quality food products in the market during the festival.

Mairaj Khalid Banday, President of the Doda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also participated in the discussions.
