Amid power paucity, Ichgam residents rue hike in power tariff

BUDGAM: The residents of Ichgam area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday held a protest against the non-availability of electricity and hike in the monthly power tariff.

The protesting residents as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that they belong to the poor section of the society and the Power Development Department (PDD) at the same time has been pushing them to the wall by hiking their monthly power tariff.

“Earlier the PDD was charging us Rs 700 per month and then they hiked the tariff to Rs 1100/ month. However, the tariff has been hiked further as a Rs 1500 bill has been served to them this month, which is not affordable, they said.

They also complained that since a long time they have not been receiving the power supply as per the schedule.

They later appealed the administration to look into the matter and roll back the decision of hike in monthly tariffs so that residents can have sigh of relief.
