Additional Secretary Sandesh Gupta reviews electoral roll revision in Kathua

Calls for concerted efforts to raise awareness, include all eligible voters

KATHUA: Additional Secretary, Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Sandesh Gupta visited Kathua district to review the ongoing Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls that began on 5 April 2023.

During his visit, Gupta interacted with locals while encouraging them for participating in the electoral process. He inspected several polling stations including HSS Girls Kathua, Old Age Home, Animal Husbandry Office Shiva Nagar, Sheep Husbandry Office, Kalbari, Industrial Area-Logate, DIC Kathua, Logate CFC, Lachhipur and Barnoti. Gupta highlighted that claims and objections can be filed both online and offline.

He encouraged stakeholders and officers to participate in the revision exercise to ensure maximum enrolment of eligible voters. He also emphasised the importance of facilitating unregistered youth and the general public through house-to-house campaigning.

Election officials were directed to create awareness through various SVEEP activities related to special summary revision and ensure timely disposal of claims and objections as prescribed by the Election Commission of India.

The Additional Secretary was accompanied by District Election Officer, and Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Pandey; Deputy DEO, Danish Rasool, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.

In the meantime, special camps were conducted at all designated polling stations throughout the administrative units of Kathua district as part of the ongoing SSR. BLOs and election staff were present with voter lists for public inspection and to receive applications for additions, deletions, corrections and transfers of names in electoral rolls through the completion of prescribed forms such as Form-6, Form-7 and Form-8.

District Election Cell teams also enlightened visitors to polling stations about the importance of conscientiously exercising their right to vote and contributing to the democratic process of electing representatives without bias.
