GANDERBAL: The District Level Committee meeting under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held today at Ganderbal to discuss various measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani and was also attended by SDM Kangan, Javaid Ahmad Rather; DySP HQ, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and other concerned officials.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, age group of addicts, areas of concern, hotspots of drug use and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.
The meeting also discussed the action taken on directions issued in the previous meeting of NCORD.
The ADDC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.
He urged the Agriculture and Horticulture departments to keep record on cultivation of illicit cultivation of poppy or cannabis crops in the district.
While reviewing the awareness campaigns, the ADDC directed the concerned departments to start massive awareness camps and Tehsildars were directed to activate Lumberdars and Chowkidars to keep vigil in their respective areas. Besides, DSWO was directed to carry awareness at village level involving SHGs, ASHA workers and local PRIs.
The Police department was asked to keep strict vigil against drug proliferation, consumption and intensifying awareness against such addictive substances involving concerned stakeholders from civil administration.
Dy Sp HQ was directed to seal all such properties that are acquired by any person through NDPS trade in the district.
While giving details, the Assistant Drug Controller Ganderbal said that two shops are closed besides notices have been served to nine shops who are not fulfilling the criteria. Prescriptions and MRD numbers are also checked on a regular basis.
