Div Com Jammu launches “The Eat Right School” Campaign

JAMMU: Eat Smart Cities Challenge by Ministry of Housing and Urban, Government of India, in collaboration with FSSAI New Delhi, was conducted last year on a national level and in this competition, Smart City Jammu was awarded among the top 11 cities in India showing global leadership in food system transformation.

In continuation to its successful journey for implementing Eat Right Initiatives, Smart City Jammu today organised a Workshop cum orientation programme for the Health and Wellness Ambassadors from various Schools of Jammu City at Hotel Radisson Jammu.

The Chief Guest, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar launched “The Eat Right School” Campaign, which is designed to deliver and reinforce the message of safe and nutritious food through both curricular and co-curricular activities and ensure an enabling legislative and regulatory framework to promote safe and wholesome food in both government and private schools across the country.

The CEO Smart City Jammu and Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Rahul Yadav highlighted the importance of the programme.

The Guest of Honour, Mission Director, National Health Mission J&K, Ayushi Sudan shared some facts about the impact of malnutrition on health and other related concerns due to nutrition deficiencies.

Joint Director, School Education, Hemraj Pakhroo ensured to implement the structure of Eat Right School to get the schools certified by the Ministry and Chief Education Officer Jammu, Suraj Rathore shared his vision to carry forward this mission.

Dr Parvesh Kumar, programme coordinator from Smart City Jammu gave a brief about the Eat Right Initiatives. Satish Kumar from  New Delhi based Mavis Food Tech presented the Eat right Matrix to be followed by the Health and Wellness Ambassadors (HWA).

Associate Prof Ashwani Khajuria, Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, and Chief Executive Chef Radisson Hotel Umesh delivered presentations on various facets of hygienic food practices, nutrition values etc.

The HWAs appreciated the knowledge shared during the workshop and committed to implementing the Eat right Matrix in the Schools. Later, the function was concluded with the online registration and vote of thanks presented by Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, MVO, Nodal Officer Eat Right Initiatives Smart City Jammu.
