Srinagar: The final matches of three separate inter-college tournaments were held at the University of Kashmir and prizes distributed among the winning teams and players.
The inter-college cricket, volleyball and football tournaments were organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES).
The final of the cricket tournament was played between Islamia College Srinagar and GDC Baramulla, which was won by Islamia College.
In the final match of the Volleyball tournament (women) Govt College of Physical Education defeated GDC Charar-i-Sharief, while the third place match was won by GDC Baramulla after defeating GDC Ganderbal.
In the Football tournament, GDC Baramulla emerged as a finalist after beating Kashmir University by one goal.
KU Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmed Mir was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
Dr Nisar, who also gave away prizes among the winning players and teams, said the University is committed to further raise its standard of sports and every possible effort is being made in this regard under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan. Dr Nisar congratulated all the teams for their participation and appreciated the DPES for conducting sports activities regularly within and outside the campus.
Coordinator DPES Dr Mussavir Ahmad highlighted the importance of sports, and assured all possible support and facilities to the players for their participation in upcoming Inter-University tournaments.
The three tournaments organised under the supervision of Dr Musavir Ahmed were coordinated by Amjad Qadir and Sakina (Cricket coaches), Sajid Dar (Football) coach) and Munir Ahmad (Volleyball coach).
