District Industries Centre Shopian organises Awareness programme on self-employment schemes at GHSS Keller

SHOPIAN: An awareness programme was organized today by District Industries Centre (DIC) for unemployed youth and students at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Keller, Shopian.

The awareness programme was conducted in order to encourage the participants to avail incentives and benefits under various schemes of the department especially under Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Programme (PMEGP) and other self-employment schemes run by department as a Career Option.

Speakers urged the participants to reap the benefits of special initiatives of Government schemes  and contribute positively in the overall development of the UT and the nation.

General Manager, DIC Shopain Tanver Ul Majid, speaking on the occasion said that the major focus of awareness programme was to motivate the participants to opt for own ventures under the various schemes viz. Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Start Up, and other schemes.

During the awareness programme, the participants were made aware about how  innovative ideas can be converted into successful ventures.      They were also informed about the facilities including office space, lab, mentor support, etc and monetary support upto one crore provided by the Government of India.

The prospective young entrepreneurs were informed about the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme wherein loan up to Rs. 50.00 Lakh is provided for manufacturing units and Rs.20.00 Lakh for the Service Sector units.

On this occasion, two young succesfull entrepreneurs of the district interacted with the people and shared their success stories.

The participants were also apprised, that general category male candidates are eligible for 15% subsidy in urban area and 25% in rural area, while Special category candidates (including SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minorities/Women, Ex-servicemen, Physically handicapped, etc.) are eligible for 25% subsidy in urban areas and 35% subsidy in rural areas.

The awareness programme was attended by HOI, Tafazul Hussain, staff members,   entrepreneurs and large number of students and unemployed youth of the areas.
