Two Days Indoor Rowing Championship Concludes at Bandipora

BANDIPORA: The two days 2nd District Bandipora Indoor Rowing Championship concludes today  at Govt. Higher Secondary School Aragam Bandipora.

The Championship Was Organised by Bandipora Rowing and Sculling Association Under the Aegis of J&K Rowing and Sculling Association in Collaboration With District Administration Bandipora under SVEEP action program Bandipora.

Chief Education Officer Bandipora Gh Mohammad Lone was chief Guest on the occasion.

Faisal Ali Dar and National Coach of Water Sports Bilquees  Mir  were also present on the occasion.

Around 160 Boys and Girls of U-14, U-19 & Senior  categories of the District Bandipora Participated in this championship.

Speaking on the Ocassion, the Chief Guest applauded efforts of District Association and Govt. Higher Secondary Aragam for  organising the Championship successfully.

Bilquees Mir, National Coach of water sports in  her speech said that the championship is aimed to boost this type of  sports. She said  youth of these areas have natural stamina because the advantage of High altitude.

In his address Faisal Ali Dar Padma Shri Awardee threw light  about the sports. He said that there are fourteen boat classes which race at the Olympics.

Indoor Rowing is a relatively new sport performed on a rowing machine (ergo), that has traditionally been used to simulate the action of watercraft rowing for the purpose of exercise or rowing training, he added.  

Later, felicitation ceremony was also held during which Medals were distributed among the participants.
