GANDERBAL: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today chaired a meeting of District Level Plastic Waste Management Cell at VC Room of DC Office, here.
At the outset, threadbare discussions were held on the action plan of Plastic Waste Management and present status with regard to implementation of the Action Plan to eliminate the plastic waste in the district.
After a threadbare discussion, the DC gave necessary instruction for elimination of single use plastic from all places including Govt. Offices, schools and colleges in the district.
To implement the Action Plan on ground, the DC directed the Municipal Council Ganderbal to prepare the list of shops who are selling plastic material for marriage purposes and guide them to use eco-friendly biodegradable substitutes for single use plastic and polythene.
Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board was directed to keep vigil if any supplier is involved in transporting single use plastic and polythene from outside districts and action as per law shall be initiated against such persons involved.
On the occasion, the DC called for mass mobilization for elimination of sing use plastic and stressed upon the concerned authorities for taking measures so that the plastic waste is properly and adequately collected, segregated and reprocessed.
The authorities of all Colleges of the district were asked to start sanitation drives in nearest villages/areas involving their own resources, PRIs and civil societies so that such villages are made garbage free to preserve the ecological balance.
To ensure cleanliness of water bodies, the ACD was directed to prepare a list of water bodies that are in vicinity of Colleges of district and share the same list to the college authorities who shall maintain the cleanliness of such water bodies.
The GM, DIC was directed to ensure proper disposal of industrial waste and was asked to identify eco-friendly biodegradable material suppliers and manufacturing units and share the list so that people are encouraged to use such materials as substitutes for single use plastic and polythene.
The enforcement wing was directed to launch a massive drive against the violators selling and purchasing items in polythene bags.
The DC also stressed on better coordination among the line departments and other stake holders so that desired results are achieved regarding elimination of single use plastic in the district.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Farooq Ahmad Baba, ACD, GM, DIC, Exen R&B, Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board, AD, FC&CS, Dean Faculties of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry SKUAST-K Shuhama, Forestry SKUAST-K Benhama Lar and Fisheries SKUAST-KRangil, officers from Degree College Kangan, Engineering College Safapora, and other concerned.
