Div Com convenes meeting on promotion of Traditional, Cultural festivals in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole today convened a meeting on implementation of the scheme for promotion of Traditional and Cultural festivals in Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Secretary, Academy of Art Culture and Languages (AAC&L), Rahul Pandey (Through VC); Director Tourism (Through VC) Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) Department Kashmir, Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq; Chief Engineer, Distribution KPDCL Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad besides representatives of other members.

Among nominated experts CEO, J&K Muslim Waqf Board, M M Farid-Ud-Din; representative of Director Doordarshan Kashmir and Chairman, Kashmir Society International (KSI), Farooq Ahmad Renzu attended the meeting.

At the outset, the Secretary AAC&L informed the chair that a list of 12 festivals have been proposed to be celebrated in 10 districts of Valley during the current financial year culminating March-2022, with focus on the quality instead of numbers.

Rahul Pandey said that the festivals have been divided on the basis of two broad dimensions viz. religious, traditional and cultural.

He said on religious point of view Birthday of Guru Gobind ji, Maha Shivratri, Mehraj Ul Aalam and Nauroz and the second set of events include Tribal festival Pahari and Band Pather besides Composite Cultural festivals, Traditional Cultural festivals and Sufi festivals.

The participants on the occasion gave their suggestions regarding organizing various drafted festivals at different locations as against the identified places on the basis of faith, popularity and other reasons which was welcomed by the Div Com.

The Div Com directed the Secretary AAC&L to frame a draft plan of festivals to be organised in the next financial year starting from April.

He laid stress on the asset creation during these festivals citing that the same can be used in future also besides directing the concerned to ensure site restorations

The Chairman, KSI welcomed the patronization of the government vis-à-vis celebrating various festivals.
