Budget Passed Under LG Administration Delayed Government’s Promises
SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir has urged the government to fulfill its commitments, particularly the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Speaking ahead of a key legislative session, Mir highlighted that while expectations from the new government are high, certain constraints have limited its decision-making over the past four months.
Mir explained that many people are questioning why the newly formed government has not delivered on its promises. However, he clarified that the budget for the current financial year had already been passed under the Lieutenant Governor’s administration before the new government took office. “Since the financial roadmap was already set, the government had no scope to make major decisions within these four months. The upcoming 2025-26 budget will be the real test of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election promises,” he said according to KNS correspondent.
Mir further mentioned that the Joint Legislature Party meeting, involving the National Conference, Congress, and allied parties, was scheduled for 3 PM. The session aimed to set the agenda and assess the government’s progress.
Statehood Restoration Must Not Be Delayed Further.
Addressing the crucial issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Mir recalled the sequence of events following the abrogation of Article 370. “Three years ago, during an all-party meeting, the Prime Minister outlined a roadmap: first reorganization, then delimitation, followed by elections. Now that a popular government has been formed, it is time to fulfill the commitment of restoring statehood,” he asserted.
Mir accused the central government of delaying this process despite the public mandate. “In the 2024 General Assembly elections, the restoration of statehood emerged as the most significant issue. Different parties voiced this demand in their own way, but the people’s message was clear. Now, if there is a delay, the responsibility lies with the central government and the Prime Minister,” he stated.
