NEW DELHI: Philemon Yang, President of the United Nations General Assembly, will arrive in India on Tuesday evening.
Yang would be on a five-day visit to India (February 4 to February 8), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
Yang is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his visit.
The UN President is also scheduled to attend a programme in Bengaluru, Karnataka. In June last year, Cameroon’s Yang was elected as the UN President of its seventy-ninth session, which runs from September 2024 until September 2025.
Ahead of his India visit, Yang praised India, stating that New Delhi continues to fulfill its obligations as a member state of the UN by paying its dues in full and on time.
India has paid US$ 37.64 million to the United Nations Regular Budget for 2025, joining the “honour roll” of 35 member states who have paid their regular budget assessments in full and on time to the UN. According to the UN Committee on Contributions, as of January 31, 2025, thirty-five member states have paid their regular budget assessments in full within the 30-day due period specified in UN financial regulations.
