Indonesian President Subianto arrives for R-Day celebrations

NEW DELHI: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in New Delhi on Thursday late night to participate in India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations as chief guest. He is on a three-day visit to India.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita received Subianto at the airport. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also welcomed Subianto as he arrived in the national capital on his first state visit to India.

Subianto is the fourth Indonesian President to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. India’s first Republic Day chief guest was also an Indonesian President, Sukarno, in 1950.

During his India’s visit, Subianato is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

During Subianto’s India visit, both countries will review entire gamut of bilateral cooperation in several fields, including politics, defence, security and trade.

Also, several MoUs are likely to be signed during the visit. Besides, the 3rd CEO Forum will be held on the sidelines during Subianto’s visit.

A 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia will be participating in the Republic Day Parade. Meanwhile, today Indonesian military personnel held a full dress rehearsal on Kartavya Path in New Delhi. It will be the first time that an Indonesian military contingent will participate in a national day parade abroad.
