DC rolls out Vision Document envisaging development initiatives

KISHTWAR: The District Administration Kishtwar today organized a workshop as part of the Good Governance Week 2024 activity and Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore campaign scheduled from 19th December to 24th December.

The workshop was organized in the Conference Hall of the New DC Office Complex in the presence and overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan. Former District Collector Ghulam Nabi Balwan was the special Chief Guest.  

The DC emphasized the importance of the Good Governance Week and Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore initiative. He praised Ghulam Nabi Balwan’s contributions during his tenure, highlighting the significant steps taken by him to advance the District’s development.

He stressed the need for evolving an effective grievances redressal mechanism at the block and tehsil levels. He also outlined the district administration’s focus on transparent, accountable, and responsive Governance.

The Deputy Commissioner provided insights into the “Vision Document: District Kishtwar @100,” an initiative of the District administration aimed at boosting the economy, tourism, agriculture, hydel power projects, sports, entrepreneurship, skill development, social welfare, women empowerment, urban development, and environmental conservation in the District. He stated that Special emphasis would be laid on empowering women by involving them in flagship schemes.

Taking the different stakeholders on board, DC Kishtwar announced a mechanism to improve literacy rates in the district. The initiative includes appointing voluntary tutors at the ward level with the goal of achieving 100% literacy rate and Nasha Mukt (drug-free) district.

The DC said that the administration is focusing on strengthening 13 model panchayats at par with the excellence of the governance initiatives in the District. The District Officers were directed to visit these Panchayats as per notified schedule.

Counting the various other novel initiatives taken by the District administration, he highlighted that an important project like “City Forest” will promote sustainable development in the township, while construction of strategic roads will be developed to enhance connectivity in conjunction with Housing and Welfare Initiatives.

Plans for establishing two land colonies or flats, a Zila Sainik Welfare Office, a Women’s Skill Development Institute, and financial literacy programs were also discussed in the workshop.

Sports initiatives for boosting Archery and Cricket sports in the District under Khelo India were announced in the workshop, along with an international-level cricket talent hunt starting from 24th December 2024 in the District.

The Workshop also served as a platform to highlight the upcoming initiatives to be taken or already taken including a 24×7 District Control Room, formation of village-level development committees, massive Swachhta (cleanliness) drives, formation of women water conservation groups, promotion of organic farming and public grievance redressal awareness through JK Samadhan, Raabta and other public grievances redressal platforms.

A documentary was screened by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Kishtwar (DIPR), showcasing the initiatives taken by the Administration.

The District officers shared their experiences regarding ongoing Good Governance initiatives during the event.

SDM Paddar, Dr. Amit Kumar, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the efforts of all involved.

Ashraf, SDM Chatroo Nayeem Ul Rehman, DSWO Kishtwar Zubair Ahmed, AD FCS&CA Shafqat Ali Keen, ALC Kishtwar Mamta Sudershan and other senior district/sectoral officers, along with staff from various departments.
