GANDERBAL: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Ganderbal, in collaboration with the 115 Battalion CRPF, commenced an exhilarating Open Volleyball Tournament for boys today at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Ganderbal.
Eight teams representing various higher secondary schools from across the district are competing in this two-day event.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Commanding Officer of the 115 Battalion CRPF, DYSSO Ganderbal Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, and Deputy CEO Ganderbal, Rumaisa Sangeen.
The dignitaries lauded the collaborative effort in organizing the tournament, emphasizing the significance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills among youth.
The opening day witnessed four intense matches, kicking-off with BHSS Ganderbal taking on Qamaria Higher Secondary School Ganderbal. BHSS Ganderbal displayed remarkable skills and secured a straight-set victory (2-0) in the opening match.
Other thrilling matches saw BHSS Batwina, BHSS Manigam, and BHSS Kurhama emerge victorious, securing their places in the semi-finals alongside the host school.
The tournament will continue tomorrow with two semi-final matches, culminating in an exciting final to crown the champions.
This initiative aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their talent and foster a spirit of sportsmanship among the youth of Ganderbal.
