NEW DELHI: Answering a question on why the government has not drafted a code of conduct for judges, Law Minister Arjun Meghwal on Thursday said courts were competent to look at the issue.

The Supreme Court on May 7, 1997, adopted two resolutions Restatement of values of judicial life and in-house procedure for action against judges who don’t follow accepted values. Under the latter, the CJI can receive complaints against the conduct of judges of the Supreme Court and Chief Justices of High Courts about the conduct of HC judges.

Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh on Thursday said 63 inductions were made into the government through lateral entry since 2018 when the scheme was undertaken. Of these, 14 are joint secretary level, 33 directors and 16 deputy secretaries.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme launched in 2016, 50 unserved and underserved airports/helipads/water aerodromes and advanced landing grounds (ALGs) will be developed until 2026. He said as of today, 613 routes connecting 87 unserved and underserved airports have been operationalised and over 146 lakh domestic passengers have travelled in 2.87 lakh flights.

The per capita water availability in the country is reducing due to increase in population, Jal Shakti Minister of State Raj Bhushan Choudhary said on Thursday. He cited a recent a Central Water Commission study to say that the average annual per capita water availability for 2021 and 2031 in India has been assessed at 1,486 cubic metre and 1,367 cubic metre, respectively.

During the last 10 years, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) leased out six airports Mangaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur and Guwahati for development under the public-private partnership, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said. He said the investment AAI made on these prior to handing them over to the PPP concessionaire is Rs 5,260 crore.
