Says War against Drugs must be fought at all levels

SHOPIAN: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, who is also chairperson of District Level Committee (DLC) under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) today, chaired the monthly meeting with the concerned members at Mini Secretariat, here.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, hotspots, monitoring of dispensing of Scheduled drugs at Pharmacies, conducting awareness camps, treatment and follow up of victims at Addiction Treatment Facility at DH, besides police action against drug peddling.

At the outset, the DC was briefed by the departmental heads about work done since the last meeting.

Addl. SP, Showkat Ahmad apprised about the registration of cases under NDPS Act and their present status.

Rural Development, Drug Control, Social Welfare and Health officers apprised about the declaration of Drug free Panchayats, vigilance on pharmacies, conducting of awareness, IEC activities and the functioning of Addiction Treatment Facility at the District Hospital.

The DC stressed on intensified crack downs on the drug peddling along with an intensive awareness campaign in order to create awareness among the masses.

He said, awareness at various platforms and at all levels involving collaborative and concerted approach between department and social organisations, media influencers must be increased.

Shahid also sought strict vigilance on pharmacies dispensing scheduled drugs by conducting regular inspections in the district. The meeting also discussed the role of police, Social Welfare, Education, Health and other departments for drug demand reduction strategies, rehabilitation and mental health counseling.

The meeting was also attended by ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; ACR, SDM, ACD, DIO, DSWO, Tehsildars, Dy.CMO, SHOs and other officers and officials.
