NEW DELHI: The controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which is still under consideration with a joint Parliamentary panel, has been listed, among other Bills, for the forthcoming Winter Session of the Parliament from November 25. Five new Bills are likely to be introduced in the Session.
Several opposition MPs, who are part of the joint Parliamentary panel, had earlier this month urged Speaker Om Birla to extend the deadline to submit the report on the Bill, citing careful consideration of its various provisions.
The Speaker had assured the members that he will have to seek view of the House and bring a resolution to extend the deadline of the submission of the report. The joint panel on the controversial Bill is led by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal and is supposed to submit its report on the last day of the first week of the Winter Session.
Meanwhile, several other Bills are supposed to be tabled in Parliament during the Winter Session. These include Rashtriya Sahkari Vishwavidyalaya Bill, 2024, which seeks to establish Rashtriya Sahkari Vishwavidyalaya, and Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to amend Section 39(1)(a) of the Punjab Courts Act, 1918, in order to enhance the pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of Delhi District Courts from existing Rs 3 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
Apart from this, Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, and Indian Ports Bill, 2024, are also to be introduced during the Winter Session.
