BARAMULLA: The District Administration of Baramulla today celebrated Janjati Gaurav Diwas with great enthusiasm to honor the 150th birth anniversary of the revered tribal leader and freedom fighter, Birsa Munda in a mega event organized at Government Degree College Uri.
The mega event also saw the launch of Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) campaign which aims to fill gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood through 25 intervention schemes implemented by 17 Central Ministries and the Departments.
The proceedings of the event were presided by the Memeber Legislative Assembly from Uri Constituency, Sajad Shafi and the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa. The event also saw the participation of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri, Javed Ahmad Rather, senior officers from various departments and hundreds of local residents.
On the occasion, stalls were set up by various departments, including Health, Education, ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services), Agriculture, and others. These stalls provided comprehensive information to the attendees DAJGUA through audio-visuals, Pamplets and hoardings and other means of demonstration.
The chief guests, officers, and local community members jointly participated in the national celebration of Janjati Gaurav Diwas through a virtual mode and listened to the message of Prime Minister about the scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, Sajad Shafi paid tribute to Birsa Munda, emphasizing his remarkable contributions to India’s freedom struggle and his enduring legacy as a symbol of tribal empowerment. He affirmed the government’s commitment to the holistic development of the tribal community.
The DC highlighted the objective of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan as a vital initiative for the economic empowerment of tribal areas and communities. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to taking every possible measure to achieve this goal.
The DC further emphasized the need to improve basic infrastructure, nutrition, and healthcare in tribal areas. He stated that through the visionary DAJGUA scheme, efforts would be made wholeheartedly to enhance these essential services and make them accessible to the tribal population.
Meanwhile, the DC encouraged the local population to take advantage of the numerous schemes provided by the Government of India specifically for the tribal community, urging everyone to explore and utilize these opportunities for their own benefit.
Later, the MLA Uri and the DC distributed ST certificates, land passbooks, sanction letters engagement orders to anganwari helpers, abha cards and other certificates among the eligibile beneficiaries.
