JAMMU: Awareness cum interaction programme was organized today by the Veterinary section of Jammu Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Dewan Badri Nath School, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu.
The programme was organised to educate the school students and faculty regarding the Animal Welfare activities carried out by Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Dr. Divya Sharma, VAS, JMC (In-charge IEC, JMC) conducted the event along-with IEC team members of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Vishu Dogra, Principal DBN School, and other officials of MVO section, JMC & faculty members of the school were present in the programme.
VAS, JMC, Dr. Divya Sharma introduced the faculty and students about the various animal welfare activities viz. Volunteer services at MACC Roop Nagar & Cattle Pound, Nagrota, Animal Birth Control/ Anti-rabies vaccination programme, Adopt a stray animal programme, Dairy registration, Pet dog registration run by JMC.
She informed that against an overall stray dog population of about 50,000 present in Jammu city, approximately 39000 have already been sterilized & vaccinated under the ABC programme being run by JMC. She laid emphasis on the fact that as per ABC (Dog) Rules 2023, stray dogs are not being dislocated from one locality to another. “They are only being captured for sterilization & vaccination and are released back in the same area with a permanent identification mark i.e. Right Ear-notch,” she added.
The team also conducted an interactive session with students regarding implementation of various Animal Welfare activities & success of ABC/ARV programme in accordance with the Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules, 2023 within JMC limits.
The team further demonstrated how the stray dog population can be controlled in a time bound manner via effective ABC programme implementation, also curbing the spread of rabies both in humans as well as animals.
Vishu Dogra, Principal, DBN School, Mubarak Mandi, in her address, appreciated the role of Veterinary services wing of JMC for organizing mass awareness extension programs in educational institutions of Jammu city as it envisages to propagate the awareness up-to the grass root level which is very important for the successful implementation of various animal welfare programs within JMC limits. She encouraged the Veterinary wing to organize such kind of awareness cum interaction programs with students in future also. The session ended with the vote of thanks.
