IUST hosts lecture on Accelerating India’s Semiconductor Mission

AWANTIPORA: Continuing with the distinguished lecture series Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) today organized a lecture on “Accelerating India’s Semiconductor Mission” by Dr Sunit Rikhi Visiting Professor of Practice and former Vice President at Intel while as Mr. Khurshid A. Ganai IAS Rtd was the Guest of honour.

The lecture series conceived by Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST aimed at bringing together experts and industry professionals to inspire students and scholars to work on future technologies, translational research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Romshoo, said that IUST is committed to providing students with skills and training them in new areas and making them future ready. He said that to be able to break into the elite club of chip making countries, research into Semiconductors has to be prioritized.

The lecture by Dr Rikhi about Semiconductor Mission deliberated in detail on the scope and necessity for prioritizing Semiconductor fabrication. In the aftermath of Covid pandemic the disruptions in the global supply brought to fore the importance of the Semiconductor mission. Regarding the program, Prof. A.H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs said that such session highlight IUST’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering innovation among our students and faculty.

The lecture was followed by an engaging interactive session with the audience, comprising faculty, scholars, and students from the departments of Electronics and Communication, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Physics, along with invited faculty from NIT and KU, and industry professionals. The program was organized jointly by Mantaqi Centre for Science and society and Dean Students. Dr. Mehak Majeed conducted the proceedings and Shaiqa Nasreen presented the vote of thanks.
