School of Law, KU and Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority organises Awareness and Interaction Programme on Legal Awareness and Social Responsibility

SRINAGAR: To educate the law pursuing students about their responsibilities towards the society and enhancing their core competencies, the School of Law, University of Kashmir organized a one-day Awareness and Interaction Programme in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority.

Justice Atul Sreedharan, High Court Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his opening remarks, he commended the university’s efforts in maintaining a beautiful and vibrant campus. Justice Sreedharan stressed the importance of history and literature, urging students to read and write  to understand the nuances.

He encouraged them to assist the needy and marginalized and to embrace their responsibilities towards the legal system and the profession. He asserted that law students should aim to improve society using their voices, as this is essential for maintaining integrity as legal practitioners.

Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her speech, expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Justice Atul Sreedharan for interacting with the law students, such interactions, she said, are crucial for the vibrant academic environment of  the university. She also discussed the potential impact that law students can have on the governance of the nation. She emphasized the critical role of the judiciary in ensuring social justice and access to justice.

Prof. Khan concluded by highlighting the challenges and opportunities that arise from technological advancements in the legal system, urging future lawyers to be knowledgeable, open to learning, and compassionate in their practice.

The event also featured a skit on free legal aid, presented by the Drama and Theatre Society of the Law School, which added a creative touch to the programme. Additionally, a plantation drive was organized on the campusDr. Mir Junaid Alam, presented the vote of thanks.

The organizing committee included Dr. Hina Basharat, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Bhat, Dr. Mir Mubashir Altaf, Dr. Hakim Yasir Abbas, Dr. Yasir Latif Handoo, and Dr. Nyaeem Ahmad Bhat, who collectively contributed to the success of this enlightening event.
