NEW DELHI: The first session of the National Exit Test (NExT) exam will start from the academic year 2025-26, as per the new guidelines for Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in MBBS released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
MBBS students will be required to maintain at least 75 per cent attendance in the electives for eligibility to appear in the NExT exam.
NExT will be a qualifying examination for final year MBBS students and will serve as a licentiate exam, enabling individuals to practice modern medicine in India. Those candidates who have failed in one or more subjects will have to appear in the supplementary exams.
Although last year NMC released the NExT regulations and announced conducting the exam for the 2019 MBBS batch, it was ultimately put on hold indefinitely.
The commission said that a medical graduate should be familiar with the factors essential for the implementation of the National Health Programs including practical aspects of Family Welfare and Maternal and Child Health (MCH), sanitation and water supply, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, etc.
