India, Singapore to enhance cooperation in futuristic areas

NEW DELHI: India and Singapore on Monday pledged to further enhance cooperation in emerging and futuristic areas. Both countries deliberated upon six pillars identified under India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), which include digitisation, skill development, sustainability, healthcare and medicine, and advanced manufacturing and connectivity, during the second ISMR in Singapore.

The roundtable is being held in Singapore ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to the city-state next month. It is a unique mechanism established to set a new agenda for India-Singapore bilateral relations.

The Indian delegation was led by Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were also present. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong led the Singapore delegation.

During the discussions, the leaders emphasised the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Singapore by concentrating on key areas that are central to the future growth of both nations. The discussions focused on the need to further strengthen the partnership between India and Singapore and explore new avenues for cooperation.

“During the meeting, the leaders emphasised on the ways of further enhancing cooperation between India and Singapore in emerging and futuristic areas,” the finance ministry said in a post on X.
