NEW DELHI: Congress MP Manish Tewari on Tuesday asked the government to specify what steps it has taken to maintain political stability in the South Asia region. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, the lawmaker from Chandigarh said in the last few years, there have been countries like Maldives, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, which have faced political instability.
“Even in Pakistan, the influence of army over the political class has been rising, while Chinese influence has grown in the western Indian Ocean. If there is instability in the South-Asian region, it will impact India as it is the most significant nation in the region,” he said.
In this light, Tewari said, “I would like to know what steps have been taken by the government to maintain political stability in the region in the last few years, since the prevailing situation will have a negative impact on India.”
