DC Kupwara chairs meeting regarding issues of PwDs, other vulnerable sections of society

KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan  today convened a meeting of officers to discuss the issues related to people with disabilities and remedial measures as guaranteed under RPWD Act, 2016.

The meeting discussed the various aspects related to the Persons with disabilities (PwDs) and other important social issues including interventions, financial assistance, social security benefits, accessibility improvements, inclusive education programs, Health care services, and community and support networks.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner meticulously reviewed action points and directed concerned officers for inclusivity of PwDs, widows, old age and other vulnerable sections of society with regard to social sector schemes. She directed concerned officers to collect the data and analyze it, so that their needs are better understood.

The Deputy Commissioner directed concerned officers to ensure that all major buildings; physical spaces and digital tools are accessible with usable facilities to the specially- abled persons.

DC directed the R&B department to assist in conducting an audit of buildings and submit a comprehensive report in this regard so that remedial measures are taken.

DC emphasized for raising public awareness about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and other vulnerable sections of society and promoting a culture of inclusiveness and respect.

LDM J&K Bank was directed to review the functioning of BCs, complete the pending aadhar seeding of beneficiaries within a five days timeline and organize the block wise financial literacy awareness camps. 

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stressed for the creation of a more focused approach towards PwDs and other vulnerable sections of society.

Meeting was attended by ADC Handwara, Aziz Ahmed Rather, ASP Kupwara, CMO, Executive Engineer R&B Kupwara, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, LDM, ARTO and other officers.
