AMBALA: Family and coach are elated at the achievement of Sarabjot Singh, who belongs to Dheen village here.

Present at the shooting range where Sarabjot practises, his father Jatinder Singh says: “He has done the country proud once again. The previous match didn’t go well, but it is all a part of the game. We were confident that he will win a medal today. I have been getting a lot of congratulatory messages and calls from everywhere. I am happy to see him win medals for the country.”

“We never watch him shooting live, and always get a call from his coach about the performance. There were challenges along the way, but money is never an issue if a child is dedicated and sincere towards his passion. He will get a rousing welcome in the village,” he adds.

Expressing happiness, budding players at the range say Sarabjot has been an inspiration and mentors them during practice sessions.

Sarabjot has been a national champion for three years, and won medals in the Asian Games, too, says Gaurav Saini, assistant coach at AR Shooting Academy, where Sarabjot practises. “His hard work has paid off. He always gives his 100 per cent. He has been practising with us since 2016 and has never missed a session.”

Meanwhile, complimenting the players, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said: “Players of Haryana have been winning medals for the country. It is a result of the state’s sports policy. I congratulate Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on their achievements and wish that the players keep winning medals in the remaining games, too.” Minister of State Aseem Goel and former Home Minister Anil Vij also congratulated the players.
