DC presides over function at Townhall Kulgam

KULGAM: World Environment Day was today celebrated across the district Kulgam with a mega function held at Town Hall Kulgam, which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan.

This year the global theme of ‘World Environment Day’, ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’.

On the occasion, the speakers from schools, civil societies and various departments highlighted the historical background of the day and added that the need of the hour is to work collectively to preserve and safeguard the environment from more depletion.

Addressing the occasion, the DC called for judicious resource use and collective efforts for environmental preservation.

The ADDC said that life is only possible by keeping the environmental balance intact, and added that preservation of water bodies and natural resources is a must.

Programme was attended by ADDC Bashir Ahmad Wani, CEO MC, Kulgam, DPCB-Officer and other officers.

Later a plantation drive was organised and plant saplings were planted within the premises of Townhall Kulgam by the DC, ADDC and other officers, besides students also participated in this plantation drive.
