Two injured in collision between two trains near Madhopur in Punjab’s Sirhind

PATIALA: Two persons were injured while others had a narrow escape after a collision between a passenger and a goods train near Madhopur in Sirhind on Sunday.

Both the injured, identified as loco pilots Vikas Kumar and Himanshu Kumar, have been admitted to hospital.

The incident occurred when the goods train hit a stationary Jammu-bound summer special train near the goods train station lines. Passengers had a narrow escape while the loco pilots of the goods train suffered injuries due to its derailment. 

As per Ambala division officials, the goods train derailed between Sadhugarh and Sirhind disrupting the movement of trains on the route. The trains are being diverted from Rajpura, Patiala and Dhuri, the officials said, adding that some trains will be diverted through Chandigarh as well.

Senior officials are on the spot to clear the traffic.
