BANDIPORA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Shakeel Ul Rehman in presence of Principal HKM GDC Bandipora, Dr Masood Ahmad Malik, on Tuesday flagged-off Annual Road Race “Drug-Free Desh” a 5-kilometer run from HKM GDC Bandipora college campus to Aloosa.
The event was aimed to raise awareness about the menace of drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among students and the community.
The DC commended the college’s initiative to combat drug abuse through awareness programs and activities like the Drug-Free Desh. He emphasized the importance of such events in fostering a drug-free community and assured administration’s full support in such efforts to eradicate the drug menace.
Principal expressed his gratitude to the DC for his early morning visit to the college to motivate the students. He briefly discussed the significant progress and achievements of the college over the years, highlighting the institution’s commitment to student welfare and community engagement.
A total of 60 students participated in the road race.
Sajad Ahmad Gojar, 4th Semester student, took the lead by sprinting ahead of the rest of the competitors and finished in the Ist position with a comfortable lead. Mushtaq Ahmad Khatana, 6th Semester student finished in 2nd position and Shakir Nabi, 2nd Semester student achieved 3rd position.
The run concluded with a felicitation ceremony where the college Principal awarded the top three runners trophies and certificates.
The Drug-Free Desh was a successful event that not only promoted physical fitness but also played a crucial role in raising awareness about the menace of drug abuse. The participation and enthusiasm of the students, along with the support from the college administration and district administration, underscored the community’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and fostering a healthier future.
