Deputy Commissioner Rajouri reviews preparations for LS Elections

RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Om Prakash Bhagat today chaired an important meeting with sectoral officers to discuss and strategize the preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. The meeting emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth, fair, and transparent electoral process.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Om Prakash Bhagat delineated the pre-poll responsibilities assigned to the sectoral officers. These responsibilities encompassed a comprehensive range of tasks, including mapping of polling stations to assess physical infrastructure adequacy, ensuring no unauthorized campaigning, vigilant enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), meticulous counting of voters, identification of vulnerable individuals, and implementation of confidence-building measures. Moreover, sectoral officers were entrusted with the crucial role of acting as zonal magistrates, necessitating their collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

As the elections draw nearer, the focus will be shifted to poll eve responsibilities, which entail overseeing the deployment of polling teams and ensuring the timely arrival of all essential materials at designated polling stations. Sectoral officers were instructed to verify the deployment of security forces as per the predetermined plan and provide timely reports to the control room after confirming satisfactory arrangements.

On the day of polling, sectoral officers were tasked with executing the duties aimed at facilitating a seamless voting process. These responsibilities include conducting frequent inspections of polling stations, monitoring the presence of security forces, supervising the activities of polling agents, and promptly addressing any issues or complaints that may arise during the voting process. Additionally, officers are asked to oversee the proper handling and sealing of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at the conclusion of polling.

Deputy Commissioner Om Prakash Bhagat reiterated the importance of performing these duties with utmost dedication and diligence to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure the democratic rights of citizens are safeguarded. He emphasized the critical role of each officer in fostering a conducive environment for free and fair elections.

As the Lok Sabha Elections draw nearer, the administration remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a transparent, efficient, and impartial manner.
