KU announces snow skiing course for 2023-24

School students experience world-class athletic facilities, sports infrastructure

SRINAGAR: To promote informative engagements between schools, colleges and affiliated institutes of Kashmir University (KU), a group of 50 students and 12 teachers from Government higher Secondary School, Haigam, Sopore Monday visited the varsity’s Department of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) here.

As part of Kashmir University’s ongoing efforts to engage with stakeholders, particularly the youth, the visit marked the first phase of a broader initiative to familiarise students with world-class athletic infrastructure available on the campus, an official press release issued here read.

Announcing a snow skiing course for both boys and girls for the session 2023-24, KU Registrar Prof Naseer Iqbal, underscored the university’s commitment to promote sports and outdoor activities among the youth.

While emphasising the significance of this new offering, Prof Naseer said: “The university believes in nurturing not only academic excellence but also holistic development among the student community. The snow skiing course provides a unique opportunity for our youth to explore outdoor sports, enhance their physical fitness and develop essential life skills,” the official spokesperson quoted the KU Registrar as saying.

On the occasion, Director, DPES, KU, Dr Mandeep Singh, emphasised the significance of sports and games in their holistic development, promising continued support and access to coaching and training facilities for educational institutions in the future, the release read.

“We aim to provide comprehensive training in techniques, safety protocols and navigation under the guidance of experienced instructors and by promoting winter sports like skiing, the university seeks to instil a spirit of adventure, resilience and camaraderie among its students,” he said.

Incharge, Ground B (Track and Field), Dr Harbinder Singh, provided the visitors with comprehensive insights into athletics, particularly track and field disciplines, in a guided tour of the ‘Athletic Track’. He also briefed the students about the facilities available on the campus by educating them about the track and field, and its layout, read the release.

For facilitating the visit, Kashmir University authorities presented an appreciation letter to Mehraj ud din Reshi, the accompanying teacher from Government higher Secondary School, Haigam, Sopore.

The visit concluded with a feedback session, where students and teachers shared their experiences and insights, it added.
